How Kentucky Cutting Boards began…
The idea for these unusual cutting boards actually began
in a casual discussion over a glass of wine in our own
backyard in the Fall of 2005.
Bill and his business partner, Steve,
started their flooring sales and manufacturing company,
(www.Custom
Hardwood Supply.com) in 1995. By 2003 a big
portion of their business was flooring inlays and medallions
created from both domestic and exotic woods. Customers
came in to the showroom because they desired the natural
look and feel of wood in their homes. When they would
see the inlays and designs that can be created with
various species of woods such as Brazilian Cherry or
African Lacewood, they’d simply fall in love with
the rich colors and unique look of these gorgeous woods.
Our discussion began because I thought
it would be really great if we could create a decorative
yet practical item from these beautiful woods that could
be enjoyed by a greater number of people. We ran through
a list of items that could incorporate hardwood inlays,
and in that list, our cutting board was born!
From there, it was a matter of deciding
on our patterns and designs. Our Horse Head was the
first design to really become popular (naturally, as
Louisville is the home of the Kentucky Derby!). The
Ladybug has become the second most popular, with the
Fleur De Lis following close behind - another Louisville
trademark (along with New Orleans).
We are always looking for unique
design ideas. If you are interested in a custom design,
email me and I’ll quote you a price.
